Consultancy » Feasibility study

A feasibility study provides a detailed analysis of the viability of a new business opportunity, a new social enterprise or a merger.

A feasibility study is commonly the next step after an organisation has completed a strategic review.

Why conduct a feasibility study?

The third sector is fragmented and there are many charities, NGOs, and housing associations that have matured and now recognise they need to innovate to achieve sustainability and to grow. A feasibility study enables organisations to do thorough research on the benefits and costs of a new business opportunity and to prepare a clear action plan for implementation.

Often organisations that provide funding ask for applicants to provide a feasibility study.

Who would benefit?

This product is for organisations that have decided that change is necessary and need to get clarity on the feasibility of a particular course of action. This will benefit particularly the senior management and boards of established organisations that:

  • Have identified one strategic option, and need greater clarification before commitment.

  • Are seeking to develop a social enterprise and want to consider the feasibility of one or more option.

Services

For a feasibility study, our service includes:

  • Advising you on preparing the feasibility study and guide you through the process step-by-step.
  • Providing you with tools, templates and expert advice to produce a professional feasibility study.
  • Preparing a feasibility report and managing the process - although the ideas will be yours.
  • Interviewing the appropriate stakeholders including key staff
  • Presenting the report to senior management or board

If required, we can help you take the first steps to put the option you’ve chosen in place.

Case study: Reading Single Homelessness Project

Issue:
Reading Single Homeless Project (RSHP), a leading homelessness agency in Berkshire, approached Eastside to explore a merger with a neighbouring organisation in order to create a larger and more sustainable organisation.

Results:

Through a feasibility study, we explored the costs, returns and implementation strategy, and provided RSHP’s board with the information they needed to move forward successfully.
